Useful information for Ukrainians arriving to the UK/Hart District and their Hosts

Hart Voluntary Action is putting up links to useful information with translation where available.  Please bookmark this web-page to check for updated and new links as we find them.

NEW! Link to Hampshire Summer Holiday Activities at low cost (or free depending on circumstances) which are free for children to access in Hart and Rushmoor, or in other parts of Hampshire.

Everyone Active, who run both of our Leisure Centres – Hart Leisure Centre and Frogmore Leisure Centre – are offering free 12 months membership to Ukrainian Refugees (adults and children)  – more detail at this link.

The Sanctuary Foundation: The Sanctuary Foundation which is assisting sponsors with information on how to be matched with refugees, has developed some short online videos with guidance for sponsors: https://sanctuaryfoundation.org.uk/course

Hampshire Libraries continue to offer drop-in meeting sessions for Ukrainains and their hosts in many of their libraries.  Fleet Library have their Ukraine Connections meet-up on Wednesday mornings 10.00-12.00 – Fleet Library, 236 Fleet Road, Fleet, GU51 4BX  (facing onto Gurkha Square Car Park). Basingstoke Discovery Centre are starting their  Ukraine Connections meet-up on Friday mornings 10.00-12.00 from 20 May – Basingstoke Discovery Centre – Festival Place, Potters Walk, Basingstoke, RG21 7LS.

Hart District Council continues to update their dedicated web-page as news and announcements from government and local authority sources are published, as does Hampshire County Council.  This information is for Ukrainians and their sponsors, and focuses particularly on support available through the statutory sector.

The British Red Cross have links on their web-site to helpful resources about essential topics (eg accessing benefits advice) in both English and Ukrainian.

The DWP (Department for Work and Pensions) now has a specific web-page for Ukrainians arriving in the UK on essential benefits information via their Understanding Universal Credit website 

The Ukrainian Institute in London has a range of useful links on their web-site which is being updated as they find out more information –  language skills, legal support, faith organisations, educational resources etc.   Also details on which organisations are looking for volunteers with Ukrainian language skills. Note, some of the information is London-focused.

Registering with a local GP Surgery/Dentist

A list of GP Surgeries in Hart can be found at this link   Whilst Ukrainians are temporarily living in Hampshire, they will be able to register with a local doctor and dentist.  More information will be provided during a home visit from a Hampshire County Council representative. Ukrainian Support Helpline – this is run by the charity Barnado’s and is for Ukrainians to access:

Phone: 0800 148 8586 – Monday to Friday, 10.00 – 20.00.  Saturday: 10.00 – 15.00. Calls are free from mobiles and landlines. Email: ukrainiansupport@barnardos.org.uk

Support includes:

  • Therapy with a qualified psychotherapist – delivered via the phone or online, with access to interpreters.
  • Advice on a range of issues e.g., housing, accessing key health services, education, employment and more via their trained helpline support workers
  • Practical support – access to digital devices to ensure families stay connected to loved ones during this worrying time, as well as stimulating toys for children, vital baby items and more

All services include access to interpreters in Ukrainian and Russian.

Bringing pets to the UK – DEFRA has announced that Ukrainians will be able to quarantine their pets free of charge. Full details including what do to before arriving in the UK  to register for assistance at this link    This information also applies to pet rehoming organisations.
