Managing Additional Risk due to Coronavirus (Covid-19)

Voluntary and community organisations are looking at how to resume activity safely as lockdown restrictions are lifted.

Most government guidance is not specifically targeted at the voluntary and charity sector.  So here are some links to interpretation of government guidance with the voluntary and charity sector in mind, and some template documents to download for your organisation.

RISK ASSESSMENT is integral to voluntary and community sector activity and risk assessments should be routinely reviewed and updated (at least annually or as part of planning a new activity).

If you already have existing risk assessments for your activity or service, add an additional section to reflect new measures your organisation is putting in place.

The Health and Safety Executive’s (HSE) guidance on extra measures to consider in a risk assessment document is a good place to start.  Go to the Working Safely during the Coronavirus Outbreak section of their web-site.

HSE’s general Health and Safety guidance for the voluntary and community sector is also a good resource to look at.

RETURNING TO THE WORKPLACE – have you consulted with your staff, volunteers and committees or Trustee boards about returning to the workplace?  Link to a template document you can use to review all of your actions and specific measures you are putting in place here:  Sample Return to Work Risk Assessment Template – COVID

COMMUNITY BUILDINGS AND VILLAGE HALLS GUIDANCE – ACRE (Action with Communities in Rural England) are producing guidance for Village Hall and Community Buildings, many of which are managed by volunteer committees.  Action Hampshire is the local ACRE partner, and provides an excellent Community Buildings Advice Service.
