Families Matter
Families Matter serves families in the Frogmore/Darby Green parishes of Yateley. Started in an informal way four years ago, Families Matter now run 4 parent/child groups per week during term-time at St Barnabas Church in Darby Green for parents with pre-school age children, and it has become a successful focal point for families in the area.
The aims of the sessions are to help new parents, especially young mothers, reduce their sense of isolation, introduce them to parenting skills, provide information about child development, develop their own skills (eg in literacy), and as well as providing babies and infants with a chance to socialise with other children and adults. Where appropriate, Families Matter is also able to offer the services of a parent coach to individual families at home.
Families Matter is being assisted by Hart Voluntary Action to set itself up as a voluntary group in its own right during 2007, with funding from the Local Network Fund. It is managed by a committee of local volunteers, who are all committed to providing an on-going service to families in the area.
